What is the coronavirus?
SARS-CoV-2 -> “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2”, is the strain of coronavirus that causes coronavirus disease 2019, abbreviated as Covid-19, the respiratory illness responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Where did Covid-19 come from?
In January 2020 China discovered a new coronavirus when it was investigating cases of pneumonia (from December 2019) in people in Wuhan city, Hubei province, China. This new infection is called COVID-19 and the virus causing it is called SARS CoV-2.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
o High temperature.
o A new continuous cough
o A loss or change in perception of smell
What do I do if I have symptoms?
Book a test as soon as possible.You and the people in your household should isolate and avoid contact with people outside your immediate household. Remain at home except for conducting a PCR test.
What do I do if I have Covid?
In the event of testing positive or knowing you have been exposed to Covid you must follow government guidelines and self isolate for 10 days from the day you find out.
What is the incubation period?
The incubation period of COVID-19, which is the time between exposure to the virus and symptom onset, is on average 5-6 days, but can be as long as 14 days. Thus, quarantine should be in place for 14 days from the last exposure to a confirmed case.
How long do symptoms last?
Many symptoms are yet unknown or very subtle, however mild forms of the disease tend to be removed by your immune system within between 5-8 days however may last 2 weeks.
How has the virus mutated?
Like most diseases, viruses mutate relatively regularly especially with a greater exposure rate. However, viruses strongly tend to mutate away from lethality and towards diffusion, making it less impeding on the human body but spreading faster and further.
Can pets transmit the virus?
There is an extremely low number of cases suggesting that pets carry and infect others with the novel corona virus. It is very unlikely; however, it is possible.
Can I become infected from drinking water?
There have been no evidence linking water contamination with the spread of COVID.
Are there risks associated with food?
As long a usual food hygiene is observed, food does not present any risk of transmission of infection.
Does the virus circulate in the air, is it airborne?
The virus spreads mainly through the air when people are near each other. It leaves an infected person as they breathe, cough, sneeze, or speak and enters another person via their mouth, nose, or eyes. It might also spread via contaminated surfaces.
Can I be in contact with a sick person without being contaminated?
Be aware that being near or in contact with another individual does risk being contaminated with the virus. Take caution if you need to interact with others within an enclosed environment.
How long can COVID-19 survive on surfaces?
It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems likely to behave like other coronaviruses. A recent review of the survival of human coronaviruses on surfaces found large variability, ranging from 2 hours to 9 days (11). The survival time depends on a number of factors, including the type of surface, temperature, relative humidity and specific strain of the virus.
Do children require a test?
Children aged 4 and under do not require a COVID-19 test on day 2 and day 8
Children and young people aged 5-17 need to take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2
Are children required to quarantine?
Children and young people aged 18 and under on the day they arrive in UK, and resident in the UK do not need to quarantine, unless they have been to France.
All under18s who have been to France in the 10 days before they arrive in UK must follow the rules set out in the gov.uk website
Types of COVID-19 Tests
Are all tests reliable?
The PCR test has the Specificity rate of 99.5% with the minimum Sensitivity rate of 97%.
Are there prerequisites to taking the test?
There are no specific requirements to consider when taking the test.
Who performs the test and how is it done?
A certified medical professional will administer the patient with a mouth and nose swab test, the test takes less than a minute.
How quickly can I get my results?
Depending on your chosen package, you will receive your results either on the same day or within 48 hours of being tested. Depending on your appointment time scheduled, you will receive your result by next day by the evening.
Do you provide a Fit to Fly Certificate?
BioLab London provides a certified document that permits the tested individual to travel in accordance with governmental guidelines. However, please check with your airlines for any additional special requirements.
Tests & Vaccinations
What you must do if you are fully vaccinated
if you have been in an amber list country ( and not passed through a red list or France) in the last 10 days before you arrive to UK, and you have been fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme:
- You Must Book and take a COVID-19 travel test on or before day 2 after you arrive (the day you arrive is day 0)

You do not have to quarantine on arrival

Even if you're fully vaccinated, you will need to quarantine for 10 days if your day 2 test is positive, or if the NHS Test and Trace tell you that you have travelled to the UK with someone who has tested positive.
